Ancient Stones, They Know, 2004
Wissahickon Schist, 8 x 16 x 30′
Cherokee Apartments, 7705 McCallum Street, Philadelphia, PA
“I stood in the center of the stones as they went up; it was like touching bedrock…which it indeed was.”
Pairs of stones –small and large–were used to connote a mutual dependency.
Stones quarried one mile from site. The mica schist is the predominant form of masonry construction in this area.
