Garden
of Timelessness,1996
Congressional Medal of
Honor Memorial Park, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
Unrealized proposal, competiton semi-finalist. Maquette shown.
Granite, stainless steel, native Pennsylvania plantings.
This work proposes to combine two 4' granite stones leaning on one another
to represent the idea of the bond of mutual dependency formed when one saves
the life of another.
The names of the awardees are listed on a stainless steel screen.
Quotations
from people who have been awarded the Medal of Honor are inscribed on a metaphoric
"river" of stainless steel surrounding the garden.
Plantings such as oak and laurel would be chosen for their heroic symbolic
meaning.
